I had a chat with Ms Anita Quansah London, about her Jewellery line and her latest Collection. She is someone I admire and has inspired me. Prior to e-meeting her and having her over at the Women Mentoring Hub as a Mentor and speaker (Her session remains one of the most inspiring till date) I followed her work and was constantly intrigued by her creativity, passion and focus.
I am so happy to have had the opportunity to interview her for my blog. She is such a warm, kind and down to earth Lady. Please read her interview below
When did you first realize you wanted to pursue a career as a jewellery designer?
As a curious young child, I knew I had something unique; I watched strong women who raised me, work hard to better themselves and pursue their dreams.
I knew after years of watching my late grandmother work hard as a creative, mentor, teacher and fashion designer of her time, I knew and believed I wanted to be creative. Of course; growing up in Nigeria, Africa, if you say you wanted to be an artist and pursue that as your career, you will get heckled at. I’m so grateful for my family, who invested in my future, by sending me to England, where I could bring my talents into fruition. In the words of my grandmother who raised me. “Anny Mbumbu!” She often called me. “Nne, you’ve been specially handpicked with a gift, presented to you like your talent, to change and impact the world!” She said to me. “Embrace that which you have and honour it with your passion and love.”With those words, I knew I had a role as a creative disciple to use my creative talents to do the unimaginable. Before jewellery design, I was and still is a textile designer.
I was so curious about, how I could merge the two disciplines I love together. My creative curiosities lead to the birth of my jewellery design.
- Where do you go for inspiration when working on a new collection?
Inspiration surrounds me. I call my self citizen of the world. So, I’m passionately inspired by the many cultures around the world.
- What is your favourite part about being a jewellery designer?
The creative freedom and the burst of excitement. Honestly, I say I have the best job in the world. Not only has my creative path brought healing to me as a person, but it has also fixed all the brokenness that comes with life.
When they say creativity is therapy, my goodness they are not lying. The art in my heart which is my superpower brings me alive each day. My job makes me happy and sets me free from all the heaviness of the world and life.
My job connects me with amazing souls all over the world. And most importantly, without being too spiritual, My work is my direct communication with God. To do what I do honestly; is not by my might. When I work, I’m in a trance where happiness and God exists. For me, that’s such an enriching blessing.
- How do you want women to feel when wearing your jewellery?
My core mission as a creative and designer is to chance upon beauty, confidence and self-love through the mastery of creativity using my hands. I say my duty as a creative disciple is to make every woman confident, happy, powerful, attractive, special and worthy of themselves and their brilliance. Gifting every woman an invaluable, premium experience that is worth every penny. We all know when you feel good inside, you look amazingly gorgeous. That is why I offer a great level of service to my remarkable, extraordinary, beautiful, Queens who are worthy of anything they desire.
- What advice would you give to young girls who look up to you and want to enter a career in jewellery design?
Passion, determination, resilience, respect and honesty to your mastery, paves the way for you in this industry. Just like any career, it comes with hurdles and challenges. Some days you feel like giving up because the challenges are unreal. You know what! You don’t give up at first try, you learn from each challenge and add it to your life resume, and you keep going. Have a never give up attitude. If you are truly following your passion, not because it’s the “IN THING” or because your friends are doing it, and making a success of it, and you say to yourself, “LETS GIVE IT A TRY,” If you are doing it for the wrong reasons, I will say give it a rethink. Check-in, book an appointment with yourself and seek that which is your purpose that will lead to your greatness. Your passion will make way for you and put you in the midst of great men and women. Your superpowers will attract a like-minded powerful source that will create wonders for you. Stay loyal. Remain committed. Remain respectful and obedient to your craft, and you will soar higher.
